Rechallenge update #4...

03 March, 2013

Five months in to my challenge to grow 80% of my fruit and veg, and finally the crops are coming in thick and fast.

Tomatoes are going great guns, cucumbers are coming along faster than I can eat them and often faster than I can pick them, the strawberries have recovered from the heat and are cropping again along with the alpine strawberries (the small white ones are Fraises des Bois - delicious), I'm fighting the birds for the figs and the first of the watermelons is here.

Also cropping well are beetroot, carrots, corn, baby capsicums and the never ending zucchini.

The tally for February was (drum roll please)... 84%.

Lets hope these summer crops last well into autumn.

  1. Yay - 84% is great. I reckon I'm at about that for veg but if you count fruit as well its way lower. Oh well I will sit back and marvel at your efforts instead.

    1. Yay indeed! Fruit is certainly my weakest link, thank goodness for well established trees.

  2. Great effort Bek. I am envious!. We have had an average crop of everything this year due to the heat. Hopefully Autumn and Winter will be more kind to the veggie patch.

    1. Thanks! I think some of the crops have certainly been less than previous years due to the heat. I also hope autumn and winter will allow the garden to give its best.

    1. Thanks. I'm amazed at the diversity in kitchen gardening sometimes. Just reinforces how boring the supermarkets are.
