Garden gathering...

18 September, 2012

In the tired haze after work, I'd much rather gather food from the garden than from the supermarkets.

Yay for the first Artichoke of the season. Long may it last! (The season, not the Artichoke.)

Now I just have to decide what to make for dinner...

  1. Congratulations on your artichoke! So what did you make?

    1. Thanks. I ended up taking a leaf out of veggiegobbler's book and made ricotta gnocchi with a spinach, pea, parsley, artichoke and pesto sauce. It was delish!

  2. Nice harvest. I love artichokes but only know one way to prepare them. With vinaigrette and dipping the base of the leaves and the good old tooth scrape. I'd like to grow them cause they are pretty indestructible, but what else do you do with them? What did you do with it?

    1. I've never done them that way, must give it a try! I tend to chop off all the outer leaves so you end up with a pittance of what you began with, and then either boil or stir fry. This way you do need to put them immediately in water with lemon so they don't discolour. I also do a few artichoke risottos when I have enough. But I'm hoping to have enough to preserve this year.
