Comfort buying...

28 June, 2012

I knew I shouldn't do it... but I couldn't help it.

I did try. Not that hard obviously, but I didn't succumb without some (completely ineffectual) resistance.

Yes, I must confess that I have shown poor restraint and have bought seeds for summer crops.

But what uselessness, I hear you cry. Believe me, the rational side of me can only but sagely nod in agreement. But the frivoulous side of me is sticking its fingers in its ears and yelling "I can't hear you".

[Sigh]

Ah well. I may as well give details on my blunder.

I was trawling the internet as I do and I came across a post on heirloom vegetables and where one can buy the best seeds.

And so I had to check them out, didn't I.

Oh, what foolishness.

I ended up buying
  • Cucumbers - (varieties) Alibi, Summer Dance
  • Peppers - Alma Paprika, Flamingo, Miniature Yellow Bell, Tequila Sunrise
  • Tomato - Ananas Noire, Pineapple, Sungold
  • Collards
  • Carrots - Deep Purple
  • Popcorn - Early Pink
  • Melon - Lambkin, Orange Sherbert, Tigger
  • Lettuce - Petit Rouge
  • Eggplant - Prosperosa
  • Bean - Royal Bergundy
  • Watermelon - Orchid Sweet
  • Pumpkin - Lil' Pump-Ke-Mon, Cinderella

Given that I had bought Alpine Strawberry seeds from America before I'm hoping that I don't have any AQIS issues. I believe as long as they have the common and (more importantly) the botanical name on the packet and they are pure seed it should be ok - fingers crossed!

So starts the long downward spiral into buying waaaayyyy too many vegetable seeds. Believe me, this is only the beginning...

  1. I can understand the draw. You can always pass the excess over the fence. I look forward to hearing of your reports on these varieties. Good luck!
